The tablet market is expected to fall by 9%

Global tablet sales in the third quarter of 2022 were 38.4 million units, slightly above the volume forecast by DigiTimes Research analysts. According to them, one of the market drivers was growing orders from Apple, which had previously interrupted iPad shipments due to the lockdown in China.

According to the forecast of experts, in the fourth quarter of 2022, shipments of tablet computers on a global scale will decrease by 9% compared to the previous three months. The decline will be due to weakening demand for tablets, which, in turn, is caused by rapid inflation, the growth of key rates in developed markets and the deterioration of the macroeconomic situation. These negative factors will not be able to outweigh positives such as the release of new iPad Pro and the launch of marketing campaigns by manufacturers.

According to DigiTimes Research, in the third quarter of 2022, the top five (Apple, Samsung, Amazon, Lenovo, Huawei) accounted for 80% of global tablet shipments. Moreover, the contribution of Apple and Samsung was measured at 38.2% and 22%, respectively.

The volume of the global tablet computer market will grow by an average of 16.7% annually and will reach $325.15 billion by 2031 against $70.72 billion in 2021, Allied Market Research analysts predict as part of their study.

The researchers attribute the expected rise in revenue from sales of tablets to a general increase in demand for such electronics, the expansion of the corporate segment and an increase in the sale of hybrid devices that can transform into laptops. In addition, the general digitalization of the economy, technological progress and the development of new opportunities for Internet communications can have an additional positive impact on the tablet market.

As factors hindering the development of the tablet market, experts cite the relatively short battery life of gadgets and the fact that the entry of new companies into the market has led to commoditization (the term refers to the situation with products that become quite cheap in mass production, when instead of one unique product there is a sea of ‚Äč‚Äčtrademarks).

According to IDC analysts, in the second quarter of 2022, 40.5 million tablets entered the global market, which is approximately the same as the volume of a year ago. Among the circumstances that contributed to the stability of the market, experts called the use of tablets in educational projects and promotional sales, such as the 618 online shopping festival in China and the annual Amazon Prime Day promotion in the United States.
